Magdalena, Now In 3-D

When we took the kids to get passports, they had to have little identical passport photos taken first. The passport office had a nifty dual-lens camera (simliar to this) to accomplish this in one go. What was interesting was the fact that the camera used two separate lenses, spaced apart about as far as your eyeballs. The picture(s) it took are therefore offset in the same way as your stereo vision. If they are recombined, and flashed back and forth quickly on screen, you get a cool 3-D image of Maggie looking wistful. More examples here (link warning: penises and other body parts are revealed in shocking 3-D).

I wonder if this could be done on a microscope by moving the stage a little, to get a 3D image of a amoeba.
